Shohei Ohtani & Kiké Hernández: The Only Two Dodgers with 10+ HRs and Pitching in Same Season Ever.Yen

June 26, 2025 by mrs a

In a feat that blends raw power with rare versatility, Shohei Ohtani and Kiké Hernández have etched their names into the Los Angeles Dodgers history books. They are now the only two players in franchise history to hit 10 or more home runs and pitch in at least two games in the same MLB season — a staggering testament to their multidimensional impact.

Shohei Ohtani: Redefining the Superstar Blueprint
It’s no surprise to see Shohei Ohtani rewriting history once again. After signing his historic contract with the Dodgers, the Japanese phenom has continued to wow both at the plate and, more recently, back on the mound.

Ohtani currently leads the National League in home runs with 25 bombs through June 2025.

Despite recovering from Tommy John surgery, he returned to the mound with a crisp relief outing, delivering two strikeouts in a scoreless inning, showing flashes of his dominant self.

His ability to contribute both offensively and defensively makes him not just a two-way player — but a two-way force of nature.

“Shohei’s commitment to excellence never ceases to amaze. To do what he’s doing on both sides of the game is something we may never see again,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Kiké Hernández: The Utility Legend Turns Pitcher—Again
Known for his energy, versatility, and clutch postseason moments, Kiké Hernández added another chapter to his unconventional MLB story. In both 2024 and now 2025, Kiké has been called upon to pitch in relief — and has done so while smashing home runs as a regular in the lineup.

In 2024, Kiké finished the season with 12 homers and 4 pitching appearances.

As of June 2025, he has 7 home runs and 5 mound appearances, positioning himself to reach the dual milestone again.

His appearances often come in blowout games, but they’ve saved arms and energized fans.

“I just try to help the team however I can,” Kiké joked. “Even if that means throwing 67 mph fastballs and praying no one hits a homer.”

A Historical First for the Dodgers
This unique combination — double-digit homers and multiple pitching appearances — has never been achieved by any other player in Dodgers’ 140-year franchise history.

Player Season Home Runs Pitching Appearances
Shohei Ohtani 2025 25 2+
Kiké Hernández 2024 12 4

Their achievement transcends stats — it’s about identity, adaptability, and the evolving nature of baseball stardom.

The 2025 Dodgers are redefining what a complete team looks like. With elite two-way talents like Ohtani and Hernández, the roster isn’t just deep — it’s dynamic.

Ohtani leads in OPS and WAR among all MLB hitters.

Kiké’s flexibility allows Roberts to rest key players and manage innings creatively. Both players have become clubhouse favorites, symbolizing both excellence and entertainment.

Whether it’s Shohei Ohtani launching moonshots and striking out batters, or Kiké Hernández mopping up innings after homering earlier in the game, the Dodgers have struck gold with their unique “two-headed monster.”
